                                                         Romantic Comedy

                                                            A sub genre of the romantic genre 


   According to “Romantic Movie Lovers” the romantic comedy is said to be made up of 85% of women often between the ages of 25 and 34 years old. They are often marketed towards women due to its effect on subconscious showing audiences what an ideal relationship is. These films usually include the realism behind relationships too as they represent the good and the bad, allowing for connection and relatability from the viewers.

Within romantic comedies the presence of love, humor, and storytelling are strong keeping classic elements like first encounters and witty remarks. This is seen in the Adam Sandler movie “50 First Dates” with comedic relief character such as Ula or always flexing Doug. As well as relationship conflicts, grand gestures being key components of the romantic comedy genre.

Romantic comedies are often light hearted and in order to consistently match the energy of the film a soft light lighting is commonly utilized to create a warm color pallet. This creates the cozy atmosphere for chemistry to evolve in. Additionally in order to maintain the audiences attention quick dialogue and quick paced editing within montages. The use of close ups during monumental confession scenes are a key technical element when building suspense often used during the climax of a romantic comedy.

Romantic comedies follow institutional conventions where they rely on predictable plots beginning with a meet cute and and guaranteed happy ending. To promote these films production companies often rely on the commercial holiday valentines day. As well as the relationships the actors how with one another often doing press tours where they are closely interacting.
